t’s a fact. Human beings like habits. We do things, repeatedly. Every day. Over and over again. Because we’re used to it. It makes us feel good; it gives us a sense of comfort and control. We have hundreds of habits that help us through the day and that bring a kind of structure into our lives. A lot of these habits we’re not even aware of. On an automatic pilot we keep on repeating certain compulsive behaviour, often being rewarded by an instant gratification. When we take a closer look, we often see that these habits are not serving us really nor contributing to our wellbeing and happiness. Although it may give us a sense of pleasure on the short term, the long-term effects can be self-destructive one way or another. It becomes really tricky...

Remember when you were a child and you were convinced that there was an evil monster under your bed? That intense feeling that something bad is going to happen and your life is not safe. An increased hart beat, transpiration and a weak feeling in your tummy. The tendency to run or hide, but in the same time frozenness in your whole system. The inability to say anything, as if your throat is blocked. Now you know better, but then it felt so real. However, we still experience feelings of anxiety from time to time even though we’ve grown up. This is completely normal and a healthy response in any threatening situation. It’s a primary protection mechanism that we all need as human beings in order to survive. A sense of fear activates our fight-fli...

The shadow of depression

Depression seems to be the new epidemic in our society nowadays. Globally, more than 300 million people of all ages suffer from one of the most common mental disorders worldwide. A beautiful palette of colours is presenting itself as a masterpiece of art from ancient times. Blown away by the breeze of light. In your naivety being sucked into the magnificence made up in an overwhelming play of reflections. Merging in the ecstatic dance of the soft sky. Feeling connected with all there is. And you know what? Sometimes there is just nothing. Or only superficial layers that masquerade something totally different inside. A fata morgana. Blinded by the colours of illusion, we can’t see clearly. And our strong romantic beliefs in the ideal that must be real hamper us to feel what’s really real. Being fooled by the manipulation of reality where the artist wants to make us belief something. In our full adoration we’re being caug...

How to reignite your inner flame

That feeling when everything is just too much. Extreme tiredness. All of a sudden, the things that were used to be fun are so heavy. A lack of interest in things, feeling negative emotions like frustration, anger or sadness all the time. The experiencing of chronic stress. An ineffectiveness and lack of accomplishment, in work and life. Physical and emotional exhaustion. Feeling like there’s a dark shadow over your life. The light has been blown out.

Burn out often goes further than just only job stress. It takes over your whole life and being and it doesn’t go away by itself.  The high demands and expectations of society nowadays don’t improve the workaholic state of a perfectionist either. You really have to mak...

In the brightness of full light the darkest shadows appear. It’s magic, although it might not always feel like this. Especially when you’re standing in the full embracement of life. Feeling the comforting warmth of the sun shining in your neck. Touched by the hand of unconditional love in your back. Your head being held by the beauty of all there is. And then it’s there. Out of the blue. Right in front of you. The tricks of the mind showing you a version of yourself that is a bit out of proportion to say the least. There’s no escape to these unreal reflections that appear so real and show you parts of yourself that you haven’t seen before. Straight into your face. You can’t walk away. It makes you wonder. Doubt. Questioning who you really are....

Real life doesn’t just come by itself. I’m not talking about living. Easy going. I’m talking about being really alive. Truly. Deeply. To feel life sparkling in each cell of your body and beyond. A full presence in the here and now and a deep awareness of life passing by. You are living it. Now. You know these moments where you feel that you could die right now and everything would be fine? That’s what I’m talking about.

Supta Baddha Konasana. Open your heart and breathe through the vulnerability of the pose. Before we can let go what no longer serves us, we have to be able to embrace it to the fullest and accept it in all its aspects. We often have the tendency to push everything away we don't want to be in our lives. To avoid. To numb. To not feel. By doing this, we're still holding on.  We can't let go of something which we haven't held.  Freedom comes if we open ourselves for that what wants to be released. Observe. Hold it in your hands. Embrace it. Look at it from a place of compassion and acceptance. And from here simply just be with whatever there is. Knowing that it's ok. We don't need an instant fix. We don't need to solv...
